Below is a list of some of the best titles available for BD Live.
Lost Season 5 – The Blu-ray edition of Lost Season 5 has something called Lost University that allows you to access a fictitious university via your BD-Live connection. Included in the features are guest speakers made up of the cast and crew of Lost as well as courses related to mythology, folklore, etc.
This might be the best use of BD-Live yet. It's really impressive. "Enrollment" began on September 22, 2009 which also happens to be the 5th anniversary of the show's debut. Once enrolled students are required to take a quiz to test their Lost knowledge. Assuming you pass you will receive your own unique student ID card and you'll be allowed to start taking classes.
They really went all out on creating this. Any Lost fan will love it. I'm so impressed with the amount of thought and planning that went into this. Kudos to the Lost team.
The Dark Knight – The BD Live features on The Dark Knight allow viewers to record their own video commentary track for the movie. You just need to hook up a webcam to your Blu-Ray player and then you can stream video of yourself and them upload it using BD live. This allows other people around the world to watch your commentary track as they watch the movie.
The Dark Knight BD Live content also featured a “virtual screening” where users could watch the film with the film’s director, Christopher Nolan.
Julie and Julia – Julie and Julia has a feature that allows viewers to choose recipes as the movie is playing and have them emailed to you. How cool is that? This is the kind of creative interactivity that will get people excited about BD-Live.
Michael Jackson - This Is It – Using Sony's BD-Live movieIQ, Michael Jackson's This Is It, allows users to bookmark their favorite songs as the movie is playing and then send that playlist to a separate device like an iPhone or your home computer.
movieIQ is something that we hope to see used more often with BD-Live. It's a technology from Sony that allows users access to real-time movie information. It can function similar to how users interact with IMDB, but instead of having to stop a movie and look up a particular actor or director on a separate device, movieIQ will let you pull up this information right on your tv while the movie is playing. That would be a fantastic feature and I could see myself interrupting a movie every 5 minutes because I want to see what else a certain actor has been in.
Sleeping Beauty – All Disney BD Live movies will allow users to play games, embed video messages and chat with friends; and Sleeping Beauty does each of these things well.
One of the more interesting features is the ability to record a video of yourself speaking and insert it anywhere within the feature itself. See this in action our our BD Live Videos page. Another fun feature is the ability to play a trivia game inside the movie with other people around the world.
The Watchmen – On July 25, 2009 at this year’s Comic-con there was a “Community Screening” of the Watchmen. Owners of the Blu-ray version of the film were able to watch this screening via their BD-Live connection. They were able to watch with the movie’s director as well as participate in the discussion and ask questions regarding the film. This is a great example of how when you own a BD-Live title you have the ability to continuously have a new experience with the film, since features can always be added anytime.
Transformers – On June 16, 2009, Paramount added even more features to their BD Live page. This content includes sneak peeks of the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen as well as deleted scenes from the original Transformers movie.
Again, this is a great example of the value in BD Live. You don’t just buy a disc, you buy a connection to ongoing features and content for the movies you love.
Wolverine – Onn September 15 2009, Fox released Wolverine for Blu-ray. It includes a new BD-Live feature exclusive to Fox releases called "Live Lookup." This feature allows viewers to have a constant connection to IMDB that is expected to allow them to pull in information about the actors in the film they are currently watching.
This sounds like a great feature to us. How many times have you watched a movie and wondered "Where do I know that guy from? What other movies has he been in?" Ideally Live Lookup will allow you to easily access this information while watching the movie. Here's hoping it works as well as advertised!
